‘Enlisted’ Star Keith David Salutes Military with Fox Comedy

Big Hollywood’s Christian Toto interviews The Mighty Keith David, someone I had the pleasure of working with and getting to know during my time in Hollywood. Great guy. Even greater talent. Supporter of our troops. Starring in the new military sitcom “Enlisted,” which airs at 9.pm. on FOX.

The Most Unimaginative and Unoriginal Movie List In History

BuzzFeed’s Kate Arthur ranked all 85 Oscar films and did so using every tired left-wing cliché and politically correct thought we have been hearing for decades from The People Who Matter.

Dances with Wolves sucks because it beat Goodfellas: Check.

The first Best Picture-winners are stodgy: Check.

OMG racial insensitivity: Check.

Driving Miss Daisy is terrible and racially insensitive and so 80′s: Check.

Where’s Kubrick? Where’s Kubrick? Where’s Kubrick?: Check.

A Beautiful Mind left out the gay stuff: Check.

Anti-Forrest Gump: Check.

Gay subtext in Ben-Hur: Check.

OMG Mel Gibson’s a racist: Check.

Elia Kazan was an anti-Commie rat: Check.

And on and on and on and on…. If you are just going to parrot the same shit almost every film critic has been parroting for a decade, why bother? This list didn’t come from someone who loves movies or even someone interested in posing as an intelligent critic. It’s a cowardly calling card that screams, “I’m one of you!”

Even if you believe all this stuff, why not try to come up with something original to say — a unique insight instead of trying to reassure The People Who Matter that you are A Person Who Matters.

I’m not even complaining about her choices. That is all subjective. I don’t even disagree with everything. It’s the tired, phony, poser Groupthink that’s making my eyes glaze over. You go through all the work and trouble of assembling a list like this just to parrot, parrot, parrot…? Go away.

Here is the Daily Beast pretty much doing the same thing.

Movie criticism is turning into nothing more than repeating talking points.

Sometime around 1981 the critical avante-garde dug a trench, jumped in, and closed their small, smug minds.

Please make it stop.

No one talks about the filmmaking — the theme, performances… It’s all politics and “I was bored,” ironic snark, and me-me-me.

Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger

After the wildly overrated “Departed,” I promise you there is still a great film to be made about Whitey Bulger, the Boston mob boss recently sent to prison at the age of 83; but only after living a life of murder and out-foxing the Feds that puts Hannibal Lectre to shame.

As he proved in Donnie Brasco, Depp is ready to handle this kind of role. He also looks young enough but is old enough (50) to cover the decades of Bulger’s career – if the script chooses to go for that kind of scope.

‘James Bond 24′ to Begin Filming This October

I thought “Casino Royale” was overrated (awesome first half) and absolutely hated “Quantum of Solace” (Daniel Craig agrees and blames the writer’s strike.). “Skyfall,” however, was the best of the three and what I especially enjoyed is that the story seemed to finally exorcize Craig’s Bond of his personal demons, which hopefully means we can get back to basics with “James Bond 24.”

Oscar Academy: Whiter Than Snow

Someone did a chart and discovered that Hollywood is really, really white.

Yes, and Hollywood is thin, too. And good looking. And rich. And liberal. And mostly found within the same five square miles of the Hollywood sign.

Even in 2014 America, Hollywood is legally allowed to discriminate based on race, gender, weight, age, your political beliefs, and how good looking you are or not.

Hollywood is the KKK’s dream of wealth, personal exclusion, media-worship, and worldwide acceptance come to life. Oh, they talk a good game  about diversity and acceptance, especially through their product, but they live and work like botoxed Grand Kleagles.

Millions of Webcam Chats Intercepted by British Spies

Friday, February 28th, 2014

British intelligence agency GCHQ intercepted and stored webcam images of millions of internet users, according to secret documents revealed by the Guardian.

A surveillance programme called Optic Nerve collected still images from Yahoo webcam chats and saved them to large databases within the agency, regardless of whether the users were suspected of any wrongdoing.

The documents also reveal that a substantial amount of the images collected were sexually explicit, with the agency struggling to keep these images from the eyes of its staff.

The Optic Nerve programme was in use from 2008 and was used for experiments in facial recognition, monitoring existing targets and discovering new ones. This technology could then be used to keep track of criminals and terror suspects using multiple anonymous IDs.

The programme was limited to taking one still image every five minutes from a user’s feed, rather than capture a whole video, which could overload the GCHQ servers.

Although the agency did try to limit analysts’ ability to see the webcam images, they still showed them the faces of people with similar usernames to surveillance targets, thus possibly allowing them to see hundreds of innocent people.

The system used by GCHQ was also tied in with America’s NSA, with staff able to use the NSA’s XKeyscore search tool to build up information on users.

The surveillance was done in bulk, with users described as “unselected”, meaning they were not chosen for any specific reason and could have been completely innocent.

Yahoo are reported to have had no knowledge of the surveillance, and are said to be furious at the breach of privacy.

Gunmen Seize Crimean Airport

Friday, February 28th, 2014

Gunmen seized the Crimea airport, less than 24 hours after gunmen seized government buildings in Simferopol.

Witnesses told the Interfax news agency that the 50 or so men were wearing the same gear as the ones who seized government buildings in the city, Simferopol, on Thursday and raised the Russian flag.

The report said the men with “Russian Navy ensigns” first surrounded the Simferopol Airport’s domestic flights terminal.

Crimea retaliated after Ukraine ousted former president Viktor Yanukovich on February 22. The majority of residents are ethnic Russians and they made it known their loyalties lie with Russia. After Yanukovich left, Crimea kicked out their Kiev-appointed mayor and elected a Russian mayor. Early Thursday morning, 150 gunmen stormed government buildings and raised the Russian flag. Then, Crimea’s parliament dissolved their government and elected a Russian speaker. They chose to vote on their autonomous standing with Ukraine on May 25, which is the same day Ukraine will hold their presidential elections.

Parliament in Kiev also announced a brand new cabinet to replace Yanukovich’s men. New prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, one of three opposition leaders, said separatism will not be tolerated.

“We are committed to the territorial integrity and unity of my country,” Yatsenyuk said. “And the new government will do everything and use all legal means to stabilize the situation in Crimea and to convince the entire world and all Ukrainian neighbors that Ukraine is a sovereign united country and no separatism is allowed.”

Breitbart News will update as soon as more information is posted.

Scrabble Helper helps you improve your Words With Friends gameplay

Friday, February 28th, 2014

scrabblehelper

If you play Scrabble (or a scrabble-like game) from time to time, you may want to check out Scrabble Helper. This simple website is a godsend when you’re at a loss for words. Simply enter whatever letters you have, and the word you’d like to connect with. Scrabble helper comes up with a whole bunch of suggestions sorted by score.

The site lets you select one of five dictionaries – Scrabble International/US, Lexulous International/US, and Words With Friends. Some people might say this constitutes cheating — I think if the other side knows you’re doing it, it’s definitely not cheating. And it doesn’t take the challenge out of the game, because implementing Scrabble Helper’s suggestions and deciding which words you’d like to connect with still takes a fair bit of thought.

Very handy, though perhaps not one for the Scrabble puritans in the crowd.

FBI and Secret Service Phone Calls Intercepted by Google Maps Exploit

Yesterday, when Bryan Seely showed me his various Google Maps exploits, he showed me more than just dick jokes and fake businesses. Using these tricks, Seely was also able to set up a system that could surreptitiously record phone calls to the FBI and Secret Service. And he actually did it.

Google’s Sundar Pichai: Android Designed to be Open, Not safe

Thursday, February 27th, 2014

Google-sundar-

Android was not designed to be safe, it was designed to be open.

That was the startlingly blunt answer Google’s head of Android, Sundar Pichai, gave when asked about the prevalence of malware on Android during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week.

The Google executive went on to say if he was in the business of creating malware, he would likely target Android as well, reported French Android blog, FrAndroid.

“We cannot guarantee that Android is designed to be safe, the format was designed to give more freedom. When people talk about 90% of malware for Android, they must of course take into account the fact that it is the most popular operating system in the world. If I had a company dedicated to malware, I would also be addressing my attacks on Android … ” Read more…

Sorry, shredders: Tony Hawk’s new game is a mobile-only affair

Thursday, February 27th, 2014

After Tony Hawk’s massively popular Pro Skater game series faded into the sunset (and the Ride/Shred series lit that sunset ablaze with nuclear warheads), the world went a few lonesome years without a new Tony Hawk title. 2014 is apparently the year…
